Welcome to Greenwood Village

During the 1930’s and 1940’s, Greenwood Village was a land strewn with farms, dairies, gravel roads, and a population of 500 residents. The area contained a mixture of farmers, suburbanites, and families who lived in Denver but would come south to their “country home” for the summer. The threat to residents that development would threaten their pastoral lifestyles caused the proposed new town of “Greenwood Village” to become incorporated in 1950. Greenwood Village, situated immediately south of Denver in Arapahoe County, encompasses 8 square miles and approximately 15,000 residents. Although it once was primarily a rural community, Greenwood Village has developed into a blend of urban and residential areas combined with a large business community, the Denver Technological Center, a development of large buildings outside of Denver where many technology-oriented companies are based. Greenwood Village retains almost 300 acres of parks with over 45 miles of trails and open spaces. When asked what they like best about living in Greenwood Village, residents’ most frequent responses were parks, trails, landscaping, and the rural/low density atmosphere.
